Over the past couple of months I've been noticing some issues that need improvement. Today I've tweaked the indexing and thread presentation a bit:
- Replies that are several months old are hidden behind the "More..." link, putting more focus on the recent discussion. This seems to help with dynamic pages like tinylogs that may have old reply references hanging around.
- Very recent replies don't count against the maximum visible length of a thread, so a busy thread will be shown in its entirety if the replies have occurred in the last couple of days.
- The "More..." link is placed chronologically, i.e., it's above the thread starter and not under it. This makes it clearer to see which post started the thread, and where the rest of the replies belong.
- Sometimes there's a bout of broken links, for example when someone submits a misconfigured feed to Antenna. Until now, I haven't been doing anything to clear these up. The indexer will now fetch each post a few hours after discovery to see whether the URL actually works. If the URL seems broken, the entry will be marked as invalid and eventually will disappear from the list.
